Symptoms Of The Flu

Symptoms Of The Flu

from James M. Steckelberg, M.D.
Flu symptoms typically begin one or two days after your exposure to the virus, and may seem to hit you suddenly. Among healthy people, flu symptoms vary in severity. Flu symptoms include:
  • Fever, sometimes rising above 103 F (39.4 C)
  • Chills
  • Muscle aches
  • Loss of appetite
  • Extreme fatigue
  • Eye redness and burning
  • Stuffy or runny nose
  • Dry cough
  • Sore throat
Flu symptoms can make you feel awful, but if you're basically healthy and you're not pregnant, take care of yourself at home rather than going to your doctor. Try these remedies:
  • Take acetaminophen (Tylenol, others) or ibuprofen (Advil, Motrin, others) to reduce fever and muscle aches. Don't give products containing aspirin to children or young adults, as these drugs may cause Reye's syndrome.
  • Drink clear fluids, such as water, broth or sports drinks.
  • Rest as long as you continue to feel tired, and sleep as much as you can.

Ge Xiurun, male, Han nationality, is a native of Shanghai. He was born in 1934 and graduated from the Odessa Civil Engineering Institute in the former Soviet Union in 1959.
Professor Ge Xiurun was one of the earliest scholars to introduce the finite element method in China's rock mass engineering. The nonlinear analysis of the cave groups during the construction of the underground workshop of the 511 Project in 1973 was the first case that employed the finite element into large underground engineering in China.
The finite element method has also played an important role in the nonlinear analysis of the anti-sliding stabilization for the Er Jiang Sluice Gate of Gezhou Dam in 1974. The 3D nonlinear analysis of the rock gravity arch dam for the river separation of the Qingjiang River won Ge the National Science and Technology Advancement Award in 1990. He is a member of the Specially-Invited Expert Committee for the ship lock's high-sided slope of China's Three Gorges Project and took charge of the completion of the 3D analysis on elasticity, fragility and ductility of the ship lock's high-sided slope of the Three Gorges Project.
Ge won a research scholarship of the German Homburg Fund and carried out research works together with the founder of the International Rock Mechanics Association, professor L. Muller, in the Soil and Rock Mechanics Research Institute of Germany Karlsruhe University from 1981 to 1982.
Ge is an academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences.

Hearing Test

Hearing Test

Bio-Acoustical's custom mobile hearing testing units can test up to six people at one time, one group every 15 minutes. Testing is conducted in ventilated, individual sound treated rooms by bilingual (English/Spanish) CAOHC certified audiometric technicians. All mobile hearing testing and training materials are available in both English and Spanish. Our audiometers are calibrated to ensure that measurements are accurate and conform to OSHA regulations. Ambient noise levels are monitored daily in the test area and are well below OSHA/MSHA standards, which ensure testing accuracy.
Audiometric Report
We provide comprehensive information in an easy to read and understand format containing all necessary information to maintain an effective hearing conservation program. All test data for each tested employee is printed on their own page, along with results, findings and recommendations.

Decongestant

Decongestant

from Jay L. Hoecker, M.D.
Vicks VapoRub doesn't relieve nasal congestion. But the strong menthol odor of VapoRub tricks your brain. As a result, you feel like you're breathing through an unclogged nose. By contrast, decongestant tablets and nasal sprays sold over-the-counter appear to narrow blood vessels in the lining of your nose, leading to reduced swelling in your nasal passages.
VapoRub has drawbacks other than its ineffectiveness as a nasal decongestant. It's unsafe for any use in children under 2 years of age.
Swallowing a few teaspoons of camphor — one of the main ingredients in VapoRub and other topical medications, such as Campho-Phenique and Bengay — can cause fatal poisoning in toddlers. Topical camphor absorbed through mucous membranes or broken skin also can be toxic. That's why you should never put VapoRub in or around the nostrils — particularly a small child's nostrils. Finally, if VapoRub gets in your eye, it can injure your cornea.

Oscillococcinum

Oscillococcinum

As soon as you start feeling run-down or have other flu-like symptoms, take Boiron Oscillococcinum. Boiron Oscillo is regulated as a drug by the FDA and is supported by published clinical studies as well as more than 65 years of use throughout the world. Clinical studies show that Oscillo reduces the severity and duration of flu symptoms. It has a great taste and it is convenient to take with no side effects or interactions with other medications. Boiron Oscillo is good for everyone 2 years of age and older.
Q: Have any clinical studies been conducted on Oscillo

A: Yes. Oscillococcinum has been studied in four separate trials. Two of these trials have been published in peer-reviewed medical journals. A total of 1,250 patients were included in all trials. In general, these studies show that Oscillococcinum works to reduce symptoms of flu. The most recent study showed that 63 percent of patients who took Oscillo at the onset of flu-like symptoms showed “clear improvement” or “complete resolution” of their symptoms after 48 hours, vs. 49% with a placebo.1-3
